My family and I recently took a vacation to California. The purpose of the trip was Disneyland, but we first had to make a pit stop at the beach. Growing up near the Pacific Ocean then being transplanted to the Midwest, it was important to me for my daughter to experience the real ocean. I wanted her to have all of the cliche beach moments: sand between her toes, waves crashing at her feet and the sun warming her face. That is exactly what we did, only for a few hours though. Then beach time was over, but I grabbed a bag of sand to take home with us. My original idea was to use it for mementos of our trip, which we did, but we had extra. I never would have guessed, when collecting that beach sand, that we would be using it for an EPIC Sand Slime. This beach slime is loads of fun for toddlers, preschoolers, kindergartners, and grdae 1 students. Plus this sand slime recipe is super easy to make! Let me show you how to make sand slime. Beach Slime

Vacuum the carpet: Once the carpet is dry, vacuum the area to restore its texture and remove any remaining traces of slime. I was trying to find the perfect kinetic sand recipe and tried many that I found on the internet. I wanted one that was just like the shop bought kinetic sand, that molds well and is stretchy.

How to make sand slime

Sand slime is my absolute favorite slime and I always join the kids when they’re playing with it. In fact, I will sometimes grab some sand slime by myself when I feel like I need relaxation or something to keep my hands busy. There’s something so soothing about the texture. I like it even better than silly putty! SAND SLIME VS KINETIC SAND Apply the cleaning solution: Using a clean cloth or sponge, dab the cleaning solution onto the slime stain. Avoid rubbing the carpet vigorously, as this can push the slime deeper into the fibers. Now I know the first thing a lot of people ask when they hear about making slime is, Is making slime messy? Well it is but it is a TON of fun too! The next question I get asked is How do you make slime? It is REALLY easy to make slime as long as you follow the directions that we give you. How to remove Slime from Carpets I recommend putting the kinetic sand in a large bin that’s not too shallow for younger kids. Older kids may enjoy playing more calmly with it on a craft tray or dollar store cookie sheet. Kinetic sand is much less messy than a bin of plain sand, but you can still expect some spills when your kids’ imaginations take off!

We call it a Non-Newtonian fluid because it’s a little bit of both! Experiment with making the slime more or less viscous with varying amounts of foam beads. Can you change the density? Did you know that slime aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)? Slime is one of the best things to make with your kids. It starts out as a science experiment and then it turns in to hours of hands on fun play time. The slime ideas and possibilities are basically endless and you can make so many different themes for slime that if you are a homeschool family it is perfect for using with your homeschool lessons for little kids. If you are not a homeschooling family then it is pure fun that the kids are sure to love! What is sand slime? This recipe does not require Sta-Flo which can be quite hard to come by here in the UK and some other countries. Plus, the ingredients for this recipe are much cheaper than buying the kinetic sand you find in the shops. Ingredients for this kinetic sand recipe with glue: While you’ve got that box of cornstarch out… look what else you can make for sensory play. Try one of these recipes after you whip up a batch of kinetic sand. Slime is what we call a non-Newtonian fluid, which means it doesn’t follow the normal rules of liquids or solids. It can change its behavior depending on how we interact with it.

Stretchy sand slime

After stirring, we added about 1/2 cup of the sifted sand. I did it in smaller increments, stirring in between. I wanted to make sure that the sand was mixed in completely. I didn’t want my daughter to play with the slime and then have residual sand on her hands. (Not that it would have hurt anything, just not what I was going for).My daughter stirred while I added the sand and we made sure it was mixed in completely before moving on. Rinse with clean water: Dampen a clean cloth with plain water and blot the area to rinse out the cleaning solution. This helps remove any remaining soap residue. While slime is a fun activity to do with the kids it is also a science experiment. It is actually ALL science that makes slime actually work when you are making it. The science applies to both basic slime recipes and slime recipes like this one where we are adding things to it.
